When looking for an alternative to the legacy system consisting of several own developed applications, Romwell's aim was to get rid of the redundant and incosistent data storage and to find a single software system that can handle all business processes highly integrated and without interfaces. The decision was made in favour of CANIAS ERP of the system house Industrial Application Software GmbH in Karlsruhe, as CANIAS has much more to offer than just ERP.
First of all the modernisation of the IT was focused in order to help clarify and streamline the business processes and to save up ressources. All modules of the comprehensive portfolio of CANIAS ERP were implemented for a maximum process integration. Already four months after the project has started CANIAS ERP is in productive use. The newly gained transparency was a very important criteria for the Romwell Group in the decision making process as in earlier times the reliability of company data was insufficient due to information not being available in realtime.
The decision in favour of IAS was, however, also influenced by other criteria as IAS could not only meet the requirement stated abouve but is also an attractive partner for future projects. Having acquired all modules of CANIAS, the Romwell Group will later on also use the CANIAS-EDI converter for intercompany processes between Romwell GmbH & Co. KG, Edm. Romberg & Sohn GmbH & Co. KG as well as to their customers. Then, customer orders, for example, will be placed or confirmed by means of EDI or collective invoices will be sent. Romwell has already purchased licences for the Payroll Accounting module availabe from end of 2007 in order to have all processes handled highly integrated with one single software and thus to avoid interface problems in future.
A further special characteristic of CANIAS ERP is that delivery includes apart from development environment also the source code and the open source database MySQL. Seventy percent of IAS' customers - from small medium sized businesses up to large scale enterprises - use MySQL as database. These references should be proof enough that MySQL is not only a favourable alternative but that it stands for high performance and user-friendly administration. Also Romwell and Romberg trust now in MySQL.
